The Blue Hill Public Library is hosting the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife’s Firearms Hunter Safety Course. This course will be offered as an Online Course with an in-person Field Day conducted on Sunday, October 2, 2022 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.

There are two (2) parts to the course: (1) the online section of the course costs $19.95 and (2) the Field Day section on October 2nd is free. Students must register for and complete the online section prior to the Field Day. Registration information is listed below.

During the Field Day students must demonstrate to the instructor that they can safely handle a firearm, participate in activities, bring in a survival kit, and pass a final exam. This class is offered for anyone applying for a hunting license for the first time, or also as a “brush up” course.

This is a Department of Fish and Wildlife Certified Hunter Safety Program. Students are provided with a course handbook, outdoor survival information, and additional handouts. Courses involve discussions and demonstrations by instructors during class and field experiences. The course covers the basics of safe firearms handling, responsible hunting practices and Maine’s hunting regulations. Proof of having taken the course must be shown with all first-time license applications. Participants must be at least 10 years of age and all minors will be required to have a signed parental consent form, available at the first session. Individuals who are 16 years or younger are required to complete the both the online and Field Day sections of the course to obtain their license.
