An Oral Blue Hill History with Jerry Butler and Denny Robertson

An Oral Blue Hill History with Jerry Butler and Denny Robertson In-Person

Two local treasures, Jerry Butler and Denny Robertson, both with deep roots in Blue Hill, will speak, off the cuff, on any and all aspects of local history, in the Howard Room on Thursday March 24th at 7pm. This oral history presentation, co-sponsored by the Blue Hill Historical Society and the Blue Hill Public Library, will be a hybrid event, both in the Howard Room and on Zoom, and will be recorded for posterity.

Jerry Butler, a former president of the Historical Society, was born and raised in Blue Hill and has a fine memory for names and dates of historical events. Ask him when the Blue Hill Town Hall was built and he’ll tell you without hesitation. Jerry, for 49 years, has climbed up into the steeple of the Baptist church on Pleasant St. every week to wind the clock.

Denny Robertson, also with a fine memory, and also a former officer of the Historical Society, was born in Blue Hill Hospital and went to the Consolidated School and GSA and then went on to study art. He can carve a seashell out of a piece of basswood and paint it so realistically that you would never know it’s not real. He has been a member of the Blue Hill Fire Department for 66 years, serving as Fire Chief for 35 years. He is a poet and a storyteller and is currently the Harbormaster of the Town of Blue Hill.

You can register using our online event calendar, or by calling the library at 374-5515. If you'd rather join us virtually on Zoom, please register here.  For more information, contact Rich at rboulet@bhpl.net.
