Author Event: Steve Hindy, 'The Ali Hindy Story' In-Person

The Blue Hill Library is sponsoring a talk with Brooklin author and former journalist and brewer Steve Hindy for his book The Ali Hindy Story on Thursday December 11 at 7PM in the library's Howard Room.

The Ali Hindy Story is a mix of travelogue, memoir, and history, following the life of Syrian Muslim Ali Hindy, who left his homeland in 1894 and traveled to Europe, then America, and eventually ended up in West Virginia, starting a general store, movie theater, and bathhouse for coal miners as well as building a family, including Steve Hindy's father. In 1980, as an Associated Press correspondent in Beirut, Steve Hindy traveled to Ali's hometown, Sultan Yaquob in Lebanon, and learned about the reasons for his immigration to America.

Steve Hindy is a former journalist who spent 6 years with the Associated Press in Beirut and Cairo. He covered the hostage crisis in Iran, the Iran-Iraq War, the civil war in Lebanon, and more. Steve cofounded Brooklyn Brewery, co-authored Beer School, and authored The Craft Beer Revolution. He resides in Brooklin with his wife Ellen.

This program is free and open to all, and will be held in the library's Howard Room. For more information, please call the library at 374-5515 or email Assistant Director Kayleigh Thomas at kayleigh.thomas[at]bhpl.net.
