Documentary Series: 'The Librarians' Screening In-Person

The Blue Hill Public Library will sponsor a screening of the documentary The Librarians, on Wednesday, February 18 at 7:00 p.m. in the library's Pearson Room, as the second film in a series of documentary screenings for the Slaven Event series.

As an unprecedented wave of book banning is sparked in Texas, Florida, and beyond, librarians under siege join forces as unlikely defenders fighting for intellectual freedom on the front lines of democracy.

The Librarians, which made its world premiere at Sundance and continued on to SXSW and Full Frame Documentary Film Festival, explores the urgent moment we find ourselves in. As an unprecedented wave of book banning is sparked in Texas, Florida, and beyond, librarians under siege join forces as unlikely defenders fighting for intellectual freedom on the front lines of democracy, flanked by concerned community members and young readers. The Librarians is a chilling cautionary tale and rallying cry for freedom – told through the personal experiences of librarians under siege and the everyday patriots who join their ranks in defense of the books. The film has a runtime of 1 hour and 32 minutes.

The documentary series will continue with a screening of A Peace of Forest on Wednesday, March 18, and Sludge on Wednesday, April 15.

This program is free and open to all as part of the Robert K. and Linda B. Slaven Events Series, which began in 2020 in recognition of gifts made to the Blue Hill Public Library’s Campaign for Endowment from the Anahata Foundation. The goal of the series is to bring diverse and previously inaccessible events on a variety of topics to the Blue Hill Peninsula.
