Snowflakes! Paper Cutting & Silk Painting In-Person
Kids ages 8 and up are invited to a workshop on snowflakes on Wednesday, December 17 from 3 - 4:30pm. Artist Heléna Melone will teach participants how to make two fun snowflake projects.
Snowflakes form high up in super-saturated, sub-freezing air, their shapes created by the flake’s moving down through different zones of both humidity and temperature. Ice structures are 6-fold in pattern, but the dendrites (“branches” or “arms”) grow independently onto the core formation.
Learn how to create these patterns by cutting them from folded paper, and then to use dye resist and silk paints to make their beautiful designs on easy-to-use 9.5-inch silk frames. They make wonderful Holiday ornaments, are lovely in windows, and make wonderful gifts!
Heléna Melone is a local, multi-disciplinary artist and instructor/facilitator whose work is rooted in rhythms: seasonal, diurnal, lunar, tidal.
Spaces are limited and registration is required. To register, use the library's interactive calendar or call 374-5515. Please register each child who will be participating.
Thanks to the generosity of the Friends of the Library, this event is free and open to all. For more information, contact Claire at claire.malina@bhpl.net or call 374-5515.
