Slaven Lecture Series Documentary Screening: "Secret Mall Apartment"

Slaven Lecture Series Documentary Screening: "Secret Mall Apartment" In-Person

Everyone is invited to the library's Pearson Room for a screening of the documentary "Secret Mall Apartment," starring visiting artist Michael Townsend, on Wednesday, October 15 at 7 p.m. Eight Rhode Islanders created a secret apartment inside a busy mall and lived there for four years, filming everything along the way. Far more than a prank, the secret apartment became a deeply meaningful place for all involved. Runtime: 1 hr. 31 mins.

Michael Townsend is one of the founders of Tape Art, a street art collective that uses adhesive tape to create large-scale, temporary murals on the side of buildings. Headquartered in Providence, Rhode Island, they regularly hit the road to make art in towns and cities around the United States and abroad. Over the last 35 years they have made over 500 murals and thousands of smaller tape drawings, all while sharing the medium in schools, community centers, and hospitals.

This program is part of the Robert K. & Linda B. Slaven Lecture Series which seeks to bring distinguished speakers with expertise in a wide array of subjects to Blue Hill to share their knowledge on topics of importance to the community and the world. It is supported by a generous gift from the Anahata Foundation. For more information contact Teen Services Librarian Kendall at kendall.chapman@bhpl.net or 374-5515.
