Kelp Farming for the Future for kids

Kelp Farming for the Future for kids In-Person

Kids ages 5 and up are invited to come to a workshop about kelp and kelp farms on Wednesday, September 10 at 3:30 p.m.  Come join Tess from the University of Maine 4-H in this interactive workshop where we will learn amazing facts about how we grow and use kelp in our daily lives.  Participants will learn about the different equipment used on a kelp farm from buoys to weights. Using our new knowledge, we'll design and build a life size model of a kelp farm!

UMaine Cooperative Extension is your doorway to University of Maine expertise. For over 100 years, they've been putting university research to work in homes, businesses, farms, and communities — in every corner of Maine. Their educational efforts focus on the Maine Food System and Positive Youth Development through 4-H programs with a focus on the STEM disciplines. They are part of the nationwide Cooperative Extension System, which works through the land-grant universities in each U.S. state.

This event is free and co-sponsored by the library and UMaine Cooperative Extension. For more information, contact Youth Services Librarian Claire at claire.malina@bhpl.net or call 374-5515.
