Frolicking Through History: Art History and Queer Identity Lecture In-Person

Please join art professor Christopher Scott Brumfield, Blue Hill Public Library, and Peninsula Pride for a brief tour through LGBTQAI+ Art and art history on Tuesday, June 17th at 6 p.m. in the Howard Room. In "Frolicking Through History: Art History and Queer Identity," Brumfield will touch briefly on many different kinds of art and the diverse manifestations of queer identity in art. From ancient Greece to modern times queer identity has played a huge role in creative culture and every art movement. World famous artists such as Frida Kahlo and Andy Warhol will be covered, but also many artists that are not as well known. This talk is safe for all ages and everyone is welcome.

Christopher Scott Brumfield is an artist, art teacher, and writer from South Louisiana. His favorite artistic medium is clay, but he works in whatever material he feels at the time. His work includes large-scale outdoor installations, rooftop installations of ceramic cities, gallery shows, ongoing photo projects around the world, and ephemeral work based in nature. Since finishing graduate school in 2001, Brumfield has had fourteen solo shows and many hundreds of group shows. He currently divides his time between Blue Hill, Maine and Baton Rouge, Louisiana where he shares his life with his husband, three dogs, two cats and many house plants. Examples of Brumfield's work can be found on his website at www.christophersblues.com.

This program is free and open to all, co-sponsored by the library and Peninsula Pride. For more information, please email Circulation Coordinator Olivia Zubrowski at oliviaz@bhpl.net or call the library at 374-5515.
