Author Event: Anne Elizabeth Moore In-Person
The Blue Hill Public Library and Blue Hill Books are cosponsoring an author event with Colby College Writer-in-Residence and culture critic Anne Elizabeth Moore for her books Body Horror and Gentrifier on Thursday, April 3 at 7PM, in the library's Howard Room.
In Body Horror, Moore catalogs the global toll of capitalism on our physical autonomy in a book Publisher's Weekly calls "sharp, shocking, and darkly funny...." Her memoir Gentrifier follows her experience with the thorny ethics of owning and selling property as a white woman in a majority Black city and a majority Bangladeshi neighborhood.
Anne Elizabeth Moore was born in Winner South Dakota and lives in the Western Catskills. She is the author of Body Horror: Capitalism, Fear, Misogyny, Jokes; Gentrifier: A Memoir; Unmarketable, and other titles. She is a Fulbright Senior Scholar, the former editor of Punk Planet and the Chicago Reader, and was the founding editor of the Best American Comics. She has received support from the National Endowment from the Arts, the New York State Council on the Arts, and the Fund for Investigative Journalism. She is currently working on the second season of the true-crime podcast My Inevitable Murder, in which she investigates her own as-yet uncommitted murder. She is the 2025 Jennifer Jahrling Forese Writer-in-Residence at Colby College which invites established writers and poets to Waterville to teach a novel course or a course focused on a genre not normally offered by the permanent faculty and to engage the local community.
This program is free and open to all, and will be held in the library's Howard Room. Blue Hill Books will be onsite with copies of the books available for purchase. For more information, please email Circulation Coordinator Olivia Zubrowski at oliviaz@bhpl.net or call the library at 374-5515.
