Saturday May Day Matinee: 'The Chambermaid' In-Person
All are welcome to the library for a movie matinee on Saturday, May 17 at 1:30 p.m in the Howard Room. The library will be showing Lila Avilés' 2018 film The Chambermaid. Popcorn, tea, and coffee will be available for movie-viewing accompaniment.
"In her feature debut The Chambermaid, theater director Lila Avilés turns to the monotonous work day of Eve (Gabriela Cartol), a chambermaid at a high-end Mexico City hotel, into a beautifully observed film of rich detail. Set entirely in this alienating environment, with extended scenes taking place in the guest rooms, hallways, and cleaning facilities, this minimalist yet sumptuous movie brings to the fore Eve's hopes, dreams, and desires. As with Alfonso Cuarón's Roma, set in the same city, The Chambermaid salutes the invisible women caretakes who are the hard-working backbone of society" -New Directors/New Films. In Spanish, with English subtitles. Runtime: 1 hr, 42 min, not rated.
This program is generously sponsored by the Friends of the Library, and is free and open to all. If you have any questions, contact Olivia at oliviaz@bhpl.net or call the library at 374-5515.
