Saturday Matinee: 'The Umbrellas of Cherbourg'

Saturday Matinee: 'The Umbrellas of Cherbourg' In-Person

All are welcome to the library for a movie matinee on Saturday, April 19 at 1:30 p.m in the Howard Room. The library will be showing Jacques Demy's 1964 musical The Umbrellas of Cherbourg. Popcorn, tea, and coffee will be available for movie-viewing accompaniment.

"Jacques Demy's valentine to the classic Hollywood musical is one of the most beloved romantic movies of all time. Every word of dialogue is sung in this glorious masterpiece starring the ravishing Catherine Deneuve as Geneviève, a shop assistant madly in love with Guy (Nino Castelnuovo), a gas station mechanic. Their ill-fated love story unfolds to Academy Award-winner Michel Legrand's enchanting score, which features the Oscar-nominated song, 'I Will Wait for You.'" In French, with English subtitles. Runtime: 1 hr 31 min, not rated.

This program is generously sponsored by the Friends of the Library, and is free and open to all. If you have any questions, contact Olivia at oliviaz@bhpl.net or call the library at 374-5515.
