Book Club for the Ages: Hyperbole and a Half by Allie Brosh

Book Club for the Ages: Hyperbole and a Half by Allie Brosh In-Person

Anyone ages 13+ is invited to join Teen Services Librarian Kendall and Circulation Coordinator Olivia Zubrowski for a special intergenerational book club, Book Club for the Ages, on the second Wednesday of each month from 6-7 pm in the Pearson room by the fireplace. In Book Club for the Ages, we will read a wide variety of fiction including young adult, short stories, and more. For our next meeting on Wednesday, June 11 at 6 p.m. we'll be discussing the graphic novel Hyperbole and a Half: Unfortunate Situations, Flawed Coping Mechanisms, Mayhem and Other Things That Happened by Allie Brosh.

"This is a book I wrote. Because I wrote it, I had to figure out what to put on the back cover to explain what it is. I tried to write a long, third-person summary that would imply how great the book is and also sound vaguely authoritative--like maybe someone who isn’t me wrote it--but I soon discovered that I’m not sneaky enough to pull it off convincingly. So I decided to just make a list of things that are in the book:

Pictures
Words
Stories about things that happened to me
Stories about things that happened to other people because of me
Eight billion dollars*
Stories about dogs
The secret to eternal happiness*

*These are lies. Perhaps I have underestimated my sneakiness!"

This program is free and sponsored by the library thanks to the generosity of the Friends of the Library. Copies of the book will be available to check out at the library. If you have questions contact Kendall at kendall.chapman@bhpl.net or Olivia at oliviaz@bhpl.net or call us at 374-5515.
