Book Club for the Ages: "Three People" by William Trevor, and "Gold Boy, Emerald Girl" by Yiyun Li

Book Club for the Ages: "Three People" by William Trevor, and "Gold Boy, Emerald Girl" by Yiyun Li In-Person

Anyone ages 13+ is invited to join Teen Services Librarian Kendall and Circulation Coordinator Olivia Zubrowski for a special intergenerational book club, Book Club for the Ages, on the second Wednesday of each month from 6-7 pm in the Pearson room by the fireplace. In Book Club for the Ages, we will read a wide variety of fiction including young adult, short stories, and more. For our next meeting on Wednesday, May 14 at 6 p.m. we'll be discussing two short stories: "Three People" by William Trevor, and "Gold Boy, Emerald Girl" by Yiyun Li, which was inspired by Trevor's story.

"'Three People' takes place in a small town in contemporary Ireland, one of Trevor’s favorite locales, and it explores the relationship between Mr. Schele, an older man; Vera, his grown, unmarried daughter; and Sidney, a middle-aged man who the father hopes will marry Vera."

"In 'Gold Boy, Emerald Girl' a professor introduces her middle-aged son to a favorite student, unaware of the student’s true affections."

This program is free and sponsored by the library thanks to the generosity of the Friends of the Library. The stories can be read online here and here, but print outs of the stories will also be available at the library. If you have questions contact Kendall at kendall.chapman@bhpl.net or Olivia at oliviaz@bhpl.net or call us at 374-5515.
