Covering Russia’s Borderlands During War with journalist Levi Bridges

Covering Russia’s Borderlands During War with journalist Levi Bridges In-Person

The library is sponsoring a talk with local journalist Levi Bridges on the invasion of Ukraine and life in Kyrgyzstan on Thursday, December 5 at 7PM in the library's Howard Room.

Since Russia invaded Ukraine, millions of Ukrainian refugees – and Russians fleeing their country's authoritarian government – have fled to former Soviet countries in Europe and Central Asia. Journalist Levi Bridges of Sedgwick has been reporting on the events for NPR from his current base in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Bridges will give a presentation about life in Kyrgyzstan and how the Ukraine war has influenced the region.

Levi Bridges is a journalist and audio producer writing about Russia and the fallout of the war in Ukraine. He was previously based in Mexico City where he covered Latin America, received a Fulbright scholarship, and produced a bilingual audio series in English and Spanish about immigration called MigRadio. His work has appeared in outlets like PRI's "The World," The Associated Press, and NPR's podcast Radio Ambulante. He started in journalism more than 15 years ago writing weekly dispatches for The Bangor Daily News in Bangor, Maine, about a 10,000-mile bicycle trip he completed across Siberia and Europe.
