SUMMARY:Seaweed Lava Lamps
DESCRIPTION:Kids ages 6 and up are invited to a fun\, interactive workshop 
 on Wednesday\, February 12 at 3:30 PM.  Join Tess Hureau from Hancock 
 County 4-H to make your very own algae-based lava lamp.  In this activity\, 
 youth will be scientists by mixing solutions\, some coming from algae\, to 
 spark exciting chemical reactions\, resulting in mesmerizing colorful 
 droplets of seaweed floating in water.  Participants will learn about 
 seaweed and its many versatile uses.\n\nUMaine Cooperative Extension is 
 your doorway to University of Maine expertise. For over 100 years\, they've 
 been putting university research to work in homes\, businesses\, farms\, 
 and communities — in every corner of Maine. Their educational efforts 
 focus on the Maine Food System and Positive Youth Development through 4-H 
 programs with a focus on the STEM disciplines. They are part of the 
 nationwide Cooperative Extension System\, which works through the 
 land-grant universities in each U.S. state.\n\nThis program is free\, 
 although registration is required and space is limited. Registration can be 
 done through the library's interactive online calendar. For more
