Civil War Veterans of Blue Hill In-Person
The Blue Hill Library is sponsoring a talk with Maine Civil War authors Ned Smith and Diane Monroe Smith on Thursday, March 13 at 7PM. Ned and Diane will be presenting a program on Blue Hill’s Civil War veterans.
Diane and Ned's project of visiting central & coastal Maine cemeteries in search of Civil War veterans began when the book tours for Diane's latest book Washington Roebling’s Civil War were canceled because of the pandemic. In their travels around the state, they found a great many soldiers who served in that war, & after researching their histories, found them so interesting they began offering to share their findings with the towns and cities of those soldiers. The two historians have visited many of the towns and cities in central and coastal Maine in their efforts to see that Maine’s Civil War soldiers shall not be forgotten. They are looking forward to sharing the research they found after visiting the Blue Hill's cemeteries.
Diane Munroe Smith and her husband Ned Smith are both Civil War authors. The Smith spend their winters in Maine and their summers in Maritime Canada. Both authors have made presentations to Civil War round tables and historical societies all over the United States.
This program is free and open to all, and will be held in the library's Howard Room. For more information, please call the library at 374-5515, or email Assistant Director Kayleigh Thomas at kayleigh.thomas@bhpl.net.
