Cereal Box Collage with Artist Michael Albert

Cereal Box Collage with Artist Michael Albert In-Person

On Wednesday, May 3 at 3:30 pm, teens and tweens are invited to join artist Michael Albert for a fun filled workshop of cereal box collage making! Michael will instruct participants how to create beautiful and unique collages through the art form he dubbed 'Cerealism', a technique that involves cutting up old cereal boxes and giving them new life. Everyone will be able to create their own unique piece to keep.

Michael Albert has been making art since his college days at NYU, where he studied business (BPA, 1988). He became interested in art after visiting many of the great museums of New York and began his own serious artistic pursuits working with magic markers and later, wax oil sticks. After 7 years of drawing, he began an exploration of collage. His first collages were inspired by the need to use materials he had no other practical use for including old labels & the leftover stickers he had accumulated from his business activities, and then moved on to create ‘cubist-type’ collage portraits of family & friends, and finally created his first ‘Modern Pop Artwork‘, a collage he titled, ‘Portrait of an American Classic’. This led to a series of these ‘Pop Cubist’ portraits of famous brands, including a collection of over 500 original cereal box collages alone.

All are welcome to attend this free program sponsored by the library. All materials will be provided. If you have questions please contact Kendall at kendall.chapman@bhpl.net or 374-5515.
